LANSING: BILL WOULD BAN MARIJUANA CLUBS

Rep. Rick Jones, a Grand Ledge Republican, said Thursday that he is
introducing legislation in the House to ban marijuana clubs because
users shouldn't be encouraged to drive. He said it's a safety risk
and that people authorized to use marijuana for medical purposes
should do so at home.

The bill would punish violators with up to 90 days in jail.

Marijuana club owners say there's nothing prohibiting them from
operating, and they provide an important service. Pending court cases
that involve some clubs could set precedents for how they're allowed
to operate.
