BACK CHAT
Readers comment on the RCMP discovery of 10 docile black bears
roaming the grounds of a West Kootenay property during a drug raid.
The Mounties discovered some 1,000 pot plants. The habituated bears
may have to be destroyed. Join the conversation at: theprovince. com/opinion

Losing battle
Hurrah! Way to waste millions of dollars a year fighting a losing battle.
The police bust a grow-op every week and pot is getting cheaper.
We're no police state
I assume that those who unfairly attack the police for enforcing
politically enacted laws regarding drugs are also willing to live in
a country where the police are permitted to pick and choose which
laws they will enforce.
That is a very logical extension of their "small-world" thinking.
What if the police decide they don't want to enforce domestic
violence laws? Or the laws against beating up on "druggies?" Or
impaired driving laws?
There are lots of police states, but Canada isn't one of them.
Waste of policing
Another example of the RCMP wasting our taxpayers' money busting
those scary marijuana growers. Wow, good work guys.
Go find my stolen bike. Do something people actually care about. This
isn't the U.S.
Drug theft
Your bike was probably stolen by someone who was on drugs in order to
get more drugs.
Abusive feeding
Feeding wildlife is abuse. Never mind the pot, whoever fed the bears
should go to jail for abuse of wildlife.
Treat animals with respect
That's not animal abuse at all. That's more like being one with
nature. Who can honestly say they have befriended a bear?
Come on, this woman deserves a medal or something. Treat animals with
respect, they are part of this world, too.
Save the bears
She was growing pot outdoors -- not laced with chemicals inside a basement.
She may have been using the plants to feed animals and there is
probably no evidence that she was going to distribute the pot. She
will go free and the right thing to do is give her animals back and
not euthanize them. I'd much rather have a black bear then a dog.
They are extremely smart animals and don't deserve to be killed
because they are too friendly.
More meth labs
When the grow-op burns down next door, takes your house out, what are
you going to carp about then? Of course, you'll blame the RCMP!
Yes, legalize the garbage and it will create the same
life-threatening problems as booze and smokes. But if you think the
grow-ops will go away, what about the supply needed for the U.S.? Do
you honestly think all the criminal scum will turn to honest work if
it is legalized? No, they will just change what they do. More meth labs.
