TRUSTEES OK DISPENSARY APPLICATION
The Town of Buena Vista Board of Trustees Aug. 10 denied a motion to
ban medical marijuana dispensaries, approved one application to open a
dispensary and denied a second application to open one. The meeting
was at the Buena Vista Community Center.
Following public comments from a standing-room-only crowd, trustee
Jerry Steinauer moved to ban dispensaries and to repeal the previous
ordinance allowing dispensaries. The motion was seconded by trustee
Robert Flint. The vote was 2-4 against the ban with trustees Duff
Lacy, Keith Baker, Norm Nyberg and Carrie Carey voting nay. The draft
ordinance to ban dispensaries was prepared following public sentiment
against dispensaries at the July 27 meeting,.
The first application for the trustees to consider from Daniel Hamme
and Clarice Basti to operate Natural Mystic Wellness Center at 204 E.
Main St. was complete and met requirements of the code, town planner
Shannon Haydin said. The vote was 5-1 to approve the new dispensary,
with Flint voting nay.
Regarding a second application from William Malone to open Evergreens
Caregivers at 109 Brookdale Ave., the trustees unanimously denied the
application. The trustees directed town attorney Jeff Parker to
construct a letter listing the reasons for denial. Reasons for denial
included that the application was incomplete. Malone was not present
at the meeting.
