AN ODD SPOT
There's no doubt Parry Sound has a group of residents in dire need of
rehabilitation for substance abuse. It's been documented and lobbied
for - and has finally, quietly, arrived. The methadone clinic that
appears to be opening in downtown quietly appeared. First there was a
stack of boxes, then signs of renovation work, then a bright, bold
sign.
There's no denying the need for a place close to home that can help
drug users wean off their addictions. Encouraging them to travel, when
they don't have the wherewithal to maintain a home, was pointless.
But the downtown location seems a strange one. In a small community,
how will drug users enter the building without shame and
embarrassment? It's a spot that has us scratching our heads.
