MEDICAL MARIJUANA DISPENSARIES FILE FOR LOCAL LICENSES
Medical marijuana dispensaries had to be existing or file a license by
July 1 to continue or begin operation before July 2011.
Dispensaries will be required to file for state licenses by Aug.
1.
Becky Walker, Canon City clerk, said five people had filed
applications with target addresses by July 1. This did not include the
previously existing dispensary on Main Street.
The city is working on approving an ordinance that would allow
dispensaries in commercial and industrial zones. Until a final vote is
taken on the ordinance, final application cannot be filed.
In the county, there are six existing dispensaries. The Planning and
Zoning Department received applications for two additional
dispensaries and four growing operations.
The county has temporary zoning regulations in place that run into the
fall. The commissioners are not expected to address those regulations
until that time.
Florence, which has a moratorium in place until Jan. 1, 2011, received
no applications.
