WE MUST BE ALERT TO THE DANGERS OF CRYSTAL METH
A councillor from Armstrong got it right: crystal meth is not a drug
"it's a poison."
So far this insidious substance hasn't made a high-profile appearance
in Revelstoke but it is only a matter of time.
Are we prepared for its eventual appearance?
No. We're not.
The City needs to take advantage of the community funding the
province is making available for anti-meth campaigns and everyone
should take a good hard look at what physically happens to people who
use this drug.
Pictures of meth-amphetamine users in the U.S. can be found on the
Website www.facesofmeth.com and really must be seen to be believed.
We here at the newspaper are a fairly thick-skinned and hardened
group but even we were appalled by the images. It was difficult to
stomach but these before and after images - more than anything else -
should go a long way towards dissuading people from trying crystal
meth. Our police detachment is vigilant but no anti-meth campaign
will succeed unless parents, teachers and kids are alert to the
dangers that face them. This is nothing like marijuana and has the
potential to devastate its users and their families in ways that few
other substances are capable of doing.
