TWO CHARGED DURING PROTEST AT MP'S OFFICE
Two protesters were arrested during a small demonstration outside the
constituency offices of Justice Minister Rob Nicholson on Thursday.
The incident happened around 1:12 p.m.
Niagara Regional Police say they attended the protest after receiving
a call from Nicholson's staff.
Police allege one of their officers was assaulted.
Charged with assaulting a peace officer is Robert Hunter, 28, of
Vancouver, B.C. Charged with obstructing a peace officer is Eric
Compton, 20, of Toronto.
According to a statement from a group called the Beyond Prohibition
Foundation, the protest was one of a series of rallies held at
offices of Conservative members of parliament by supporters of
marijuana activist Marc Emery.
Emery was recently extradited to the United States to serve a
five-year prison term for selling marijuana seeds.
