OUR METH EPIDEMIC
To the guy who wrote the letter on May 23 (Tribune-Herald) wondering
what caused the meth epidemic: People do drugs, whether it is alcohol,
pakalolo, "ice," heroin, whatever -- either as an escape from life's
troubles or as a form of entertainment. Usually it starts with
cigarettes, then alcohol, then pot, and when those don't satisfy like
they used to, then the user turns to a harder drug, always seeking
something more. People are dissatisfied in their lives and want an
escape. Drugs seem to offer that. Unfortunately, it is just a
temporary escape.
Seems meth isn't the only epidemic drug in Hawaii. Alcohol and pot
seem to be rather epidemic also. Only alcohol is legal, but all of
them have caused great suffering. Just ask the keiki who get neglected
or beat by the parents who use those drugs.
So the best way to stop these epidemics is to stop taking the drugs
and alcohol and replace them with relationship with God. People will
make up all kinds of reasons to justify taking drugs, and lots of
people like to jump on the medical marijuana trip, but an excuse is an
excuse is an excuse. It doesn't solve the problem.
