POT LEGALIZATION NOT THE ANSWER
The suggestion by O'Rourke and Byrd that legalization of pot will help
solve the problem in Juarez is naive and simplistic at best. El Paso
is one city that should understand the depravity of the drug cartels.
Do you really think the drug lords and their posse are going to put
together a resume and get a job after marijuana is legal?
You may alter the trade, you may give them access to a different
business, but you will not get rid of these degenerates and their
cowardly tactics to get money. There will always be a black market.
Should we legalize heroine, cocaine, prostitution? Then we wouldn't
have to fight that, either.
Amsterdam's recent attempt at such policies has resulted in an attempt
to close shops and clean up districts because of organized crime
infiltration.
You insult the innocent people in Juarez who are suffering; you offend
our many law-enforcement officials who fight this filth every day; and
you exhibit a fundamental lack of understanding of organized crime.
O'Rourke's insistence on legalizing marijuana proves that he is unfit
for office here in El Paso.
