NO LICENCE FOR POT

A local man who hasn't received government approval to use marijuana
medicinally was sentenced to 45 days house arrest and fined $200 Friday.

Glenn Dionne, 45, of Sarnia pleaded guilty to marijuana possession
Feb. 6 and September 30, 2009 in Sarnia.

The amounts consisted of two marijuana cigarettes and 28 grams.

Dionne has been receiving a disability pension since suffering a
severe head injury in a motorcycle accident, said defence lawyer Ian Bruce.

He will not give up marijuana, but jail is not appropriate despite a
lengthy criminal record, Bruce said.

"It helps me," said Dionne.

Justice Mark Hornblower agreed house arrest addresses his unique circumstances.

It will require a drug ban, and noncompliance could bring jail time, he added.

Dionne cannot leave home except for scheduled appointments with his
lawyer to purse a certificate for medical use of marijuana. He can
also leave home on weekend afternoons.
