2 JUAREZ OFFICERS FATALLY SHOT OUTSIDE HOMES
Gunmen killed two Juarez police officers in attacks, both outside
their homes and about 14 hours apart, a police spokesman said.
The latest slaying occurred about 8:20 a.m. Wednesday when officer
Victor Manuel Terrazas Orozco, 34, was shot while on his way to work.
Chihuahua state police said Terrazas was in the driver's seat of his
car when he was shot in the head, arms and left side by gunmen, who
fired 32 rounds from an AK-47 and a 9 mm weapon.
About 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, officer Jose Santos Salazar, 33, was killed
when he arrived at his home after his shift, a police spokesman said.
Investigators at the scene counted 23 bullet casings from a 9 mm firearm.
There had been no arrests. By Wednesday evening, there were at least
four other new homicides in Juarez.
The dead included a man left with an undisclosed message written on
his chest. State police said the unidentified man's thumb had been
cut off and left in his mouth, a sign traditionally meaning the
victim was a snitch. The man's head was covered with gray tape, and
his pants were pulled down below his knees, a traditional form of
humiliation. He had bruises throughout his body.
In other Juarez news, Mexican federal police arrested six heavily
armed men suspected of being members of La Linea, or the Juarez drug
cartel, after officers stopped their van on Tuesday.
Police seized four AK-47s, an Uzi submachine gun, two handguns and
bags of marijuana and cocaine.
The arrested were identified as Jorge "El Ruso" Garcia Lozano, 37;
Alejandro "El Grandote" Terrazas Paz, 26; Uberto "El Beto" Montano
Carbajal, 41; Jose Luis "El Negro" Garcia Irigoyen, 31; Mario Edgar
Cano Garcia, 18; and Cesar Prospero Gutierrez, 31.
