'ANTI-SOCIAL' MARIJUANA CARETAKER ARRESTED BY NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP
A 47-year-old man described by North Vancouver RCMP as an "antisocial"
caretaker of a marijuana growing operation has been arrested and more
than 200 marijuana plants seized.
The growing operation was found in a home in the 1200-block of Elmwood
Place, according to a police press release Monday. The plants, grown
with stolen electricity, filled every bedroom, bathroom and living
space in the home.
RCMP credited tips from suspicious passersby for alerting them to the
operation.
"In spite of the fact the house is located in a desirable
neighbourhood near parks and an elementary school, people noticed that
nobody was living at the address," police said. "That's when the North
Vancouver RCMP began watching and they observed that the only person
at the house was a decidedly anti-social 'caretaker' who only came by
at brief intervals."
The man, a North Vancouver resident, faces charges and could lose the
home, which he owns, under proceeds of crime legislation. Police said
his status as a landed immigrant could also be revoked.
