BRANDING AN EMBARRASSMENT
Mayor Brian Taylor's last election platform, according to him at the time,
was not based on any pro marijuana activism. That was not on his local
government agenda!
Co-councillor Davies based her platform on her previous business
experience. I guess we should have asked more questions about that!
According to the (CBC) CannaBiz documentary, Mayor Taylor based his
electoral victory on the local changing of attitudes - more tolerance to
the use of marijuana. I strongly take exception to this. The voters did
not change; Taylor was deceptive. Marijuana was not in his election
platform.
The residents voted for what they figured would be a moderate proactive
team to deal with local fiscal issues. Most voters were probably deceived.
Our current mayor stated that you cannot buy publicity like we are
receiving from the airing of the Cannabiz documentary. What kind of a
person would think that this is good publicity? As a district, we now
suffer the embarrassment of this branding.
The Cannabiz program discusses the potential for local jobs and monetary
gains derived from production of medical marijuana. no discussion or
admittance to the personal tragedies associated with and/or caused by drug
use.
Yes, you can say Grand Forks is a depressed area. Do you think selling
drugs to your own youth is a way out?
I feel our local city government is shameful and hopefully we are only one
election away from a total cleansing.
