DRUG CRIMES MERIT AGGRESSIVE ACTION
I have been following the story about the 20-year-old pregnant British
citizen who was arrested trying to smuggle drugs in the country of
Laos, and how, if she was convicted, she could face a firing squad.
In some countries around the world, dealing drugs is a capital crime,
because these people know that illegal drugs and involvement with them
can destroy a nation. In our country, drug dealing is not a capital
offense, and I'm not saying that it should be. I believe, in this
country, we should act more aggressively against drug dealers.
Drug dealers are domestic terrorists whose weapons are biochemical in
nature.
They release this weapon and do not see the destruction that is left
in their path: homelessness, utility bills not being paid, not buying
food for yourself or family, drug-related violence and the destruction
of neighborhoods.
Drug dealers do not see their crimes, therefore there is no
remorse.
Many drug dealers when caught say they are addicts, in order for mercy
from the court. Addicts for the most part don't carry guns, stick up
people and rob stores, commit home invasions or drive expensive cars.
My idea is harsh, but drug dealers need to be locked up for a long
time, which would put a dent in their unseen crimes; and on the other
hand offer aggressive treatment for the drug addict.
In both cases, society will see the rewards.
