ADMISSION IS THE FIRST STEP

Re the May 16 Letter of the Day ("Your message is curious, George").
It appears S.D. Murphy's message to drug addicts is don't bother
getting over your addiction and turning your life around because
there will always be people ready to judge your past and ensure you
are eternally persecuted for it. The writer also implies there is no
point in drug addicts admitting their addiction because unwise
individuals will be there to shoot them down when they attempt to be
brave and admit their problem. Isn't admitting an addiction the first step?
