DRUG WAR: A DESTRUCTIVE, IMMORAL DOMESTIC POLICY
Your editorial dismisses any notion of legalizing drugs, saying that,
"If this were a popular or at all politically realistic trade-off, we
suspect some candidate would have proposed it." Are we now to limit
the scope of our thinking to what has already been proposed by
political candidates? If so, then it would seem that we are doomed to
endlessly recycle the old ideas that haven't worked. I would like to
point out that what is popular and politically realistic is also
highly malleable. Politicians are followers, not leaders.
