EFFORTS ON DRUG REFORM EARN KUDOS FOR SOARES
District Attorney David Soares is a breath of fresh air for Albany
County amid the stale politics that have driven its machine for
decades. He is a wonderful role model for our young people. He
exemplifies the type of person we need in our government: a person
who is not afraid to tell the truth to bring about reform; a person
who will fight back because he has the courage of his conviction.
Susan B. Anthony, foremother of the feminist movement who fought for
women's right to vote, once said, "Cautious, careful people, always
casting about to preserve their reputation and social standing, never
can bring about a reform. Those who are really in earnest must be
willing to be anything or nothing in the world's estimation, and
publicly and privately, in season and out, avow their sympathy with
despised and persecuted ideas and their advocates, and bear the consequences."
More elected officials should follow the lead of Susan B. Anthony and
David Soares.
