POT FAILURE

Re: Understaffing Delays Medical Pot, letter to the editor, Feb. 17.
Letter-writer Dr. David Saul is not entirely correct in stating that
understaffing in Canada's Medicinal Marijuana Access Program (MMAP)
is to blame for delays in receiving medicational pot.

The truth is that the MMAP was poorly planned and executed in bad
faith by the government of Canada. The program was slapped together
in 2001 as a result of a court ruling that gave the government one
year to replace the laws that were then in place. The government
swiftly came out with the Marijuana Medical Access Regulations. Since
2001, the program has had no significant budget or staff increases,
despite a surge in applicants.

Something seems wrong to me when someone can apply for a gun permit
and receive it before I receive access to medicine for a pensioned
medical condition.
