TRESPASSING A CONCERN NEAR MATSQUI INSTITUTION
Security officers from Matsqui Institution in Abbotsford have met with
neighbours to discuss concerns about people trespassing on residential
properties to access the prison grounds.
The concerns arose after a recent incident in which a farmer's fence
line was cut open, allowing a package to be launched from an air gun
and onto prison property. The package contained drugs, a cell phone
and some tobacco.
Officers have since spoken with local residents, inviting them to
contact the institution if they observe any suspicious activity.
"CSC (Correction Service Canada) is committed to eliminating drug use
in its facilities by reducing both the supply of and demand for drugs
among offenders," said assistant warden Gordon Tanner.
A confidential toll-tree line (1-800-780-3784) is available for people
to report any prison-related activities such as drug trafficking,
intimidation, assault and loan sharking.
