INSITE INSIGHT

Re: "InSite saves addicts' lives," Liz Evans, Opinion, March 12.

An IV drug user, after injecting unsafely, gets an infection.
Untreated, it spreads through the body, causing shock, emergency
hospitalization, and a potentially lengthy, expensive
(taxpayer-funded) hospital stay or permanent disability. If the person
survives, the cycle repeats. An IV drug user is enabled to inject
safely with close access to counselling and treatment when he or she
is ready for it. No infection. No lengthy, expensive hospitalization.
No permanent disability. Greatly increased potential for recovery.
What seems like a no-brainer to me is brilliantly articulated in Liz
Evans' column. InSite deserves our support.
