NDLEA IMPOUNDS DRUGS WORTH OVER N100M IN KANO

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has impounded drugs worth
over N100million in Kano within the last 3 weeks, and hounded into
custody 17 suspected peddlers.

The Commandant of the Anti Drug Agency, Nicolas Walter told
Journalists in Kano that the drugs identified as cannabis were seized
from suspected drug peddlers in two separate operations, pointing out
that it weighed over 4tonnes.

Nicolas Walter who described the seizure as 'unprecedented' in the
state came on the heel of growing statistics that shot the state
ahead of others in terms of operations, convictions and
rehabilitations of peddlers.

The NDLEA Commandant explained that 3 vehicles were also impounded
during the operation, maintaining that investigation is on to
ascertain the veracity of those in the net to pave way for the
prosecution of those involved in the illicit drug trade.

Nicolas Walter stated that preliminary investigation has indicated
that the impounded drugs were transported into the Kano from Southern
part of this country by a group of syndicate.

The Commandant who lamented inadequate manpower in the conduct of
their operations urged stakeholders to provide more logistics support
to enable them police the porous routes that leads to Kano market.

Nicolas Walter revealed that the command had seized illicit drug
weighing over 10 tones over the last 2 years in the state, stressing
that recent upsurge requires the cooperation of all to halt it.

Walter seized the opportunity to call on the National Assembly to
facilitate moves that will enable them boost their operational man
power, adding that the anti drug law Agency need more hands to combat
illicit drug trade in the Country.
