DIAL THE JACK CRACK LINE AND YOU'LL GET A DISCONNECTED NUMBER

It was as easy as picking up the telephone and dialing the "Jack" line to
order crack, cocaine, or heroin and have it delivered right to your door.
But no more. Richmond RCMP said yesterday that acting on a tip, they have
busted the dial-a-dope ring known on the street as the "Jack Line" and
have arrested six of seven people behind it.

Three search warrants were executed on three residences, two in Richmond
and one in Vancouver. The houses were supply depots for the drugs, police
said.

"This investigation continues, but police believe they have dismantled an
entire criminal drug trafficking group from its leader down to its
lowest-ranking member," said RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Pound.

"There is no way that buying a drug such as heroin or cocaine should be as
easy and accessible as ordering up a pizza. The war on drugs is a big one
and although this was a very successful takedown, it's a small piece of
the puzzle when it comes to fighting this crime.

"Communities are fighting back against crime and police recognize that the
public is an essential tool in helping us solve them. When drugs become
this accessible, the public adopts a no-tolerance rule and are out in full
force along with the police."

Charges have been formally laid for six of the seven accused and all seven
will be appearing in court Jan. 5 next year for their first appearance.

Charges range from trafficking in a controlled substance, possession for
the purpose of trafficking and conspiracy to traffick a controlled
substance.
