TAKE AWAY MARIJUANA PROFIT MOTIVE

Historically, District Attorney Mike Ramsey and I have not always seen
eye to eye. However, I have to say that I am in basic agreement with a
recent statement of his, wherein he indicated that marijuana
dispensaries are not legal.

Here's my position: Marijuana cannot be legally sold for cash, not on
the street, not from a dispensary. Nothing in Proposition 215 allows
such sales. Correspondingly, growers who "provide" marijuana to
dispensaries at lucrative prices are also operating in violation of
state and federal law.

Pragmatically speaking, if marijuana possession and personal
cultivation were legalized, the for-profit growers and dispensaries
would be chopped off at the ankles.
