PUT PUBLIC HEALTH BEFORE POLITICS

IAIN Macwhirter makes a strong case for heroin maintenance (Comment,
May 14). Unlike the bizarre forced contraception idea floated by
Labour MSP Duncan McNeil, heroin maintenance is backed up by peer
reviewed research. Switzerland's trials have been proven to reduce
drug-related disease, death, and crime among chronic users. Putting
public health before politics may send the wrong message to children,
but I like to think the children are more important than the message.
