DRUG ANGLE TO DEATH IS WRONG

Editor:

I was extremely interested to hear that despite being tasered six
times, and left face down while having trouble breathing, "acute MDMA
intoxication" was Robert Knipstrom's cause of death. Or so they say.

Perhaps the Taser had something to do with it? I don't know why, but I
have a hard time believing that a moderate dose of a relatively safe
substance was what caused his death. While "ecstasy" is dangerous,
MDMA is relatively safe. The reason "ecstasy" is dangerous is that a
user never knows what they are getting and could be getting more
dangerous substances like methamphetamine. When British researchers
were asked to rate drugs in terms of danger and harm, MDMA ranked
lower than both nicotine and alcohol.

In the past provincial election, the B.C. Green party called for a new
provincial police force to replace the RCMP. I have said it once, and
I will say it again: The police cannot police the police. We need
oversight, and we need it now. Before more lives are lost.
