Breckenridge And Frisco Already Have Rules In Place; Dillon Will
Likely Approve Its Own Ordinance In November

SILVERTHORNE - Silverthorne's now on board with regulating the influx
of medical marijuana dispensaries in the state by approving new
regulations, including provisions that allow plant cultivation within
specific areas of town.

With the new regulations approved, medical marijuana dispensaries can
open in any zone already allowing drug stores and pharmacies. Other
location requirements include not being too close to schools, public
places, residential neighborhoods and other medical marijuana
dispensaries. The ordinance also requires dispensaries to comply with
limitations regulating store hours, security, product displays and
signs.

To get in front of inquiries about opening medical marijuana
dispensaries within the town, the council imposed a 90-day moratorium
to expire Nov. 10 while it created regulations for the blossoming
medical marijuana market. Silverthorne already has one dispensary -
High Country Healing - that opened a shop in the Quiznos building,
across from Wendy's.

Council members agreed at the town meeting Wednesday that they've
arrived at a pretty good start, but now they'll have to see how
regulations function in "reality."

"Let's give it a try and see where we go from here," Councilman Bruce
Butler said.

According to Councilwoman Peggy Long, the town needs to be cautious
about the new business model so it doesn't take away rights or
infringe on the desires of the community.

"It's going to evolve," said Mayor Dave Koop.

Councilman Kevin McDonald agreed, saying: "I'd be surprised if it
(regulations) will look like this in a year."

Breckenridge and Frisco already have regulations in place. Dillon will
likely approve its own medical marijuana rules in November.
