MAYOR MAY HOLD MARIJUANA MEETING

After being asked three times at last week's city council meeting to
call a pubic meeting on medical marijuana, Mayor Brian Taylor
suggested one may be held in January. That's when Coun. Joy Davies
said her medical marijuana task force may be bringing recommendations
to city council. In response to questions by a citizen, Sylvia
Treptow, and Coun. Chere Wyers, Taylor said he was reluctant to call a
public meeting because people who use marijuana to treat pain are
"sensitive about the stigma" attached to the use of the drug.

"I don't think we need to exacerbate this issue in the community,"
said Taylor.

However, Coun. Christine Thompson said the medical marijuana task
force is "working hard to prepare its recommendations" and suggested
presenting then to the public when available.

Taylor said he may be willing to hold a meeting at that time.
