CRITICISM UNFAIR

Editor, The Gazette,

It has become apparent over the last few weeks, that some citizens in
this valley have lost a very important human quality, that quality
being compassion.

Compassion is defined as sympathy for the suffering of others. There
are residents of this valley suffering life-threatening conditions who
have tried prescription drugs with little results or in some cases
dire consequences. For some people these drugs have horrible side
effects, just read the fine print in the drug advertising. They are
prepared to try a more natural medicine to relieve their symptoms.

No one should judge them or deny them the right to use medical
marijuana.

The personal attacks on Coun. Joy Davies have been cruel unfair and
inaccurate. Coun. Davies does not advocate the legalization of
marijuana, nor the establishments of local grow ops, she does not seek
to legalize medical marijuana, because it is already legal.

Coun. Davies' goal is to move the regulating and licensing of medical
marijuana to the province from Health Canada and to allow people a
choice of medications in our free country. She wants to be part of
the process to find solutions to improve our health care system, and
to ensure our rights and freedoms are not stomped on by uninformed and
non-compassionate people. She wishes to give back dignity to our most
vulnerable citizens. Years ago we burned at the stake those who used
herbs and called them witches; I hoped we had moved beyond that mentality.
