WHAT ABOUT DRIVING STONED?

Re: Random breath testing for drunk driving could save lives, editorial, Oct. 6

The real road-safety issue is not just drunk driving, it's impaired
driving. We know too many people are still getting away with drunk
driving, but do we have any idea how many are getting away with pot-
or cocaine-impaired driving? Or how many accidents involve non-alcohol
drug impairment?

For decades, breathalyser test have been used to determine blood
alcohol levels and prove drunk driving. However, breathalysers cannot
measure non-alcohol drug impairment.

It can only be determined by testing body fluid samples. Officers
cannot demand roadside sweat or saliva samples. They can only request
them and wait for them to be volunteered.

B.C. bud has been big business in B.C. for decades. We all know it's
everywhere. It's time to get serious about getting it off our roads,
with or without the assistance of random-testing legislation.
