WHAT WAS THE SQ SMOKING?

Re: "Nipping the pot harvest in the bud" (Gazette, Sept. 13). A few
things about this story seemed oddly suspicious to me. For one, it
stated that Surete du Quebec officers cut down the marijuana crop
with machetes. Doesn't that seem a little counter productive? After
all, they call marijuana weed for a reason, and that reason is that
it grows like a weed. If you don't pull it out by the roots then it
will just grow right back.

Second, if the SQ already knew where the grow operation was, then why
didn't it just stake the place out and wait until the growers came to
harvest and then arrest them?
