COPS TRASH MORE THAN 29,000 POT PLANTS
The RCMP destroyed more than 29,000 marijuana plants in its annual
aerial detection program.
Every year, the RCMP's federal drug enforcement branch works with
Island RCMP and Victoria police at harvest time.
This year's harvest, which took in more than 400 grow sites, would
have yielded over 23,000 kilograms of product, said Cpl. Darren Lagan,
Island District RCMP spokesman.
Both RCMP and Canadian military helicopters were used for the aerial
surveillance, taking officers to remote locations in difficult
terrain, mostly north of the Comox valley. Officers will continue to
hunt for outdoor grow-ops in a ground campaign.
