City Says No to Sex, Bottles, Drugs

While it's not yet known what will be done to the Burr Theatre, it's
already been determined what won't take place.

In addition to approving a request for proposals, city council has
also approved a covenant respecting land use for the site at 530
Columbia St. The covenant prohibits the use of the property for a
number of land uses deemed to be incompatible with the city's
intention for the heritage building.

Banned uses include a beer bottle depot, tattoo parlour, food bank,
drop-in social centre, halfway house, homeless shelter, jail or
detention centre, massage parlour with unregistered staff or escort
service.

It also won't be used for a hall, lodge or clubhouse for a motorcycle
club, recycling depot, cabaret, abortion clinic or methadone clinic.

Other prohibited uses include a treatment and rehabilitation centre
for drugs, alcohol or criminal activity, gentlemen's club, sex show,
nudity theatre or similar business. The sale of marijuana and other
controlled substance, as well as sexual aids, goods or services, are
also prohibited at the site.
