CIGARETTES KILL, BUT THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH POT

Re: 'Pot as much bad as tobacco: Study' (Daily News, Aug. 6)

The headline poses one interesting question: If marijuana is as
dangerous as tobacco, why has no one ever died from using it?

It also raises other questions, like who funded this research? why is
one legal and one not? and If it really is so dangerous, isn't that
all the more reason to regulate it?

Neither marijuana nor the main psychoactive component of the plant,
THC, has been shown to cause cancer.

In fact, recent science shows how cannabis actually fights cancer.

I noticed, however, that Amy Minsky and Canwest went to the trouble
of actually asking for a quote from someone on the sensible side of
the marijuana debate. Usually, this kind of tripe is regurgitated
unedited to the public, so we thank and commend you for showing a
higher level of journalistic integrity than most of your peers.
