A LETTER A CRIMINAL MIGHT SEND

To The Editor,

RE: Thank you, criminals

Here is a letter that I imagine a criminal might send in response to
this article:

"Thank you, Canadian people. Not only have your drug prohibition laws
made our businesses wildly lucrative, your insatiable appetite for
drugs keeps us as busy as bees. We can barely keep up! Not satisfied
with booze, smokes, coffee, sugar, salt, meat, fat, gambling, and
porn, you gobble up the pot, meth, X, smack, and coke like you were in
a contest! And the prescription pills - you get buckets of them from
your doctors and you still come to us for more!

"Okay, so, the cops catch a few of us each year, and take our stuff,
and throw some of us in jail, but all that does is send more customers
our way! The demand from you never ends, and the cops couldn't catch
even a quarter of us if they committed their entire force to the task!
So expect business to continue. We know you will always be waiting at
our door, and we promise to do our best to supply your seemingly
endless and ever-more-exotic drug demands.

"It is only fair to warn you, however, dear customers, that since the
police are stepping up their enforcement, there may be more public
violence between rival gangs, and gangs and police. We apologize in
advance for any inconvenience. Sincerely, your friendly neighborhood
drug dealer."

If any gangsters read the paper, that is the letter I think they would
likely send.
