FOGGY-HEADED LOGIC

Calvina Fay of the Drug Free America Foundation ("The cost of making
pot legal," Letters, July 18) arrives at a bizarre conclusion in her
argument that legalizing marijuana would lead to a public health crisis.

With logic that is at best tortured, she states that, as marijuana
smoke "causes cancer" (maybe; so does sunlight), and as legalization
would cause use to increase 30 percent (how this figure was arrived at
is not explained), substance abuse costs (to whom?) would increase 30
percent.

I've spoken to people who were on drugs who made more sense than
that.
