IN SAN JOSE FAMILY'S TRAGEDY, CAUTIONS ABOUT RAVAGES OF DRUG ABUSE
Bob and Pat Sheehan did everything parents should to be involved in
the life of their son, Bobby. Bob coached his son's volleyball team.
Pat went along on every field trip with his class. They faithfully
attended his water polo matches at Archbishop Mitty High School. Like
his mother, Bobby Sheehan was wearing a St. Michael's medal on the day
he died.
Sometime on Sept. 27, 2008, a Saturday, everything went wrong in the
house that Bobby, 21, rented with two friends in Chico, where he was
in his fourth year of college.
When Bobby's heart stopped beating, he was propped up in bed, his
hands on his laptop, an e-mail from his father on the screen. His
mother is certain he fell asleep and died from a deadly combination of
OxyContin and Xanax, two prescription drugs that left traces in his
blood.
In the 10 months since, Pat Sheehan has kept a vigil for Bobby,
dedicating herself to finding out what happened a
