ZIP TIES A GOOD MOVE

By showing a medical marijuana card, a medical marijuana patient can
buy a zip tie for each plant they are legally growing, giving deputies
and other law enforcement officers a clear signal in the field that a
legal marijuana grow is in progress.

We are delighted that so many medical marijuana patients and their
legitimate caregivers who are growing marijuana legally under Prop.
215 are taking advantage of Sheriff Tom Allman's zip tie program.

The zip ties are sold only to people with legal medical marijuana
cards and will protect them from harassment or arrest if the plants
are questioned by law enforcement.

We see no reason why any legal medical marijuana patients or
caregivers would refuse to get a state approved card and why they
would not then get the zip ties from the Sheriff. If they are doing
things by the book, there's no reason not to.

While zip ties are not mandatory, we think they should be and so
should the state-issued medical marijuana cards for that matter. If
you're a legitimate patient or a legitimate caregiver you are
protected under state law. This allows law enforcement to unburden
themselves from investigations of legitimate medical marijuana grows,
and, if every legal grower had a zip tie, then it would be easy to
identify the illegal growers.

If the legal medical marijuana community really wants the protection
it claims it deserves, then it should be calling for mandatory cards
and zip ties and that would go far to assure them their legal rights.
