METHADONE SAVES LIVES
I'm disgusted with Coquitlam's decision to ban methadone clinics. Such
clinics have had a proven track record in supporting addicts.
Methadone is a proven method of treatment and through access to a
stable supply of legal, pharmaceutical-grade medication, the user
gains a respite from the stress of maintaining a constant supply of
illicit opioids. Methadone reduces death rates and helps addicts
stabilize and reintegrate into society.
These benefits, together with a host of others, have been removed from
any Coquitlam resident. Does the mayor and council believe our
residents are free from drug-related issues? If so, that's
short-sighted and ignorant. We have drugs in our schools and our
community at large.
This city should be encouraging methadone clinics and other
drug-related services.
I ask the mayor and councillors to demonstrate humanity and
compassion, educate themselves on the benefits of methadone and
reverse their decision.
