END 'CLUB FED'
Federal Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan was recently quoted
saying: "Sex offenders, drug addicts and alcoholics serving time in
federal prisons could be rewarded financially if they take part in
treatment programs." What an outrage! The last thing I want to see as
a taxpayer is my taxes being used to reward penitentiary inmates.
The policy should be that mandatory attendance, participation and
demonstrable attitude change by federal inmates should be a
prerequisite to even being able to apply for parole.
We need to change the philosophy from the "Club Fed" mindset to "you
did the crime, now do the time." I thought prisons were for punishment.
