LAW ENFORCEMENT TIME WASTED ON WEED

As a retired police officer and 1969 graduate of Dougherty High
School, I heartily endorse the analysis of Carlton Fletcher, as he
pointed out the many advantages of repealing marijuana prohibition
(DailyViews, June 14).

The one major advantage of going legal/regulated/taxed Fletcher did
leave out; namely, that public safety would increase. My colleagues
currently spend a solid 10 million hours to arrest about 850,000
citizens for marijuana, 90 percent for possession with intent to
smoke. This horrific waste of police time translates into less time
for the deadly DUI and child predator.

If one day you have a drug problem, see a doctor for goodness sake.
Police officers have more important tasks.
