DRUG ERA WAS NO GIFT

Re "Timothy Leary's trip," Opinion, May 29

I really have to wonder if Robert Greenfield might have indulged in a
little LSD party of his own before he sat down to write about the
late Timothy Leary. The 1960s gave us a lot of good things: a peace
movement, a humanistic stance, women's rights and more. And it gave
us drugs, widespread abuse and addiction. Leary was at the helm with
his catchy slogans and wonderful wit, but ultimately we all have paid
a price and continue to do so.

A day to celebrate Leary? How about a day to celebrate drug- and
alcohol-free living instead?
