POLICE SHUT A DOZEN CRACK HOUSES, SEIZE LARGE QUANTITIES OF DRUGS IN SWEEP
Toronto's drug squad made 120 arrests, laid more than 400 charges,
shut down 12 crack houses and seized nearly 1,500 grams of cocaine as
part of last week's Project Spring Clean initiative.
After a five-week investigation, the project culminated with raids in
several locations near Jane Street and Finch Avenue as well as Keele
Street and Eglinton Avenue.
Police executed roughly 40 search warrants and seized large quantities
of heroin, Ecstacy, crack cocaine, cocaine and marijuana. Officers
also confiscated nearly $25,000 in cash and four cars.
The second phase starts on Monday, when 75 officers will begin
patrolling the communities in a 15-week drive to "create and maintain
an environment that is no longer conducive to criminal activity," a
Toronto Police Services news release says.
