STUDENTS AND ADDICTS A BAD COMBINATION

People who think a needle exchange is OK beside an elementary school
should visit our school, St. Andrew's Elementary, and see that our
kids are already well aware of the druggies and homeless people
surrounding them.

They are taught very early that these people exist and we do our
part. Our kids raise a lot of money each school year by collecting
food, clothing, toiletries, juice cartons and other bottles and cans
for recycling, holding bake sales and a whole lot more and it goes
right back to many of the people who leave their needles, and
garbage, yell and swear and leave behind a few other things too
disgusting to mention.

They have seen arrests, drug deals, people so high they don't even
know who or where they are and people engaged in many states of dress
and sexual activity. So we are teaching our kids about these people
and about homelessness -- they know that some of these people can't
help it and they know that some have mental disabilities and they are
compassionate.

But a lot of these "underdogs" put themselves where they are now by
making bad choices and I do not think our kids need to worry about
that. I pray that these kids see that and grow up to make better
choices and not expect society to pay their way.

If it wasn't good enough for Cormorant Street, why is it OK for us?
