LIVING FEARFUL LIVES

After reading the June 2 letters to the editor on this subject, I must
confess a deep sense of compassion for the authors. It must be hard to
go through life being in constant fear, to not be able to enjoy a day
in a park without worrying that you might have to defend yourself and
family.

One writer makes a good point for doing away with drug laws. Just as
it is foolish to think that gun-free zones accomplish anything, it is
also foolish to think that drug laws accomplish anything.

Given the extremely low rate of crime in the parks, it will be
interesting to see what the statistics are in a few years.
