UNHAPPY WITH COURT'S OVERTURNING HOUSE FORFEITURE

Re: Pot grower can keep her home, top court rules, Westcoast News, May 30

The legislation on confiscation of assets related to crime was an
innovative law that, according to police, helped reduce the number of
marijuana growing-operations in B.C. It's now obvious that the
Supreme Court didn't like this law and has rendered it ineffective.

In the first test of the law before the court, the majority ruled
that if the grower showed remorse and kept the operation within
bounds, the law would not apply. Again, Canada's justice system is
the weak link. It continues to frustrate police and community efforts
to counter the production of the illegal drugs that fuel the violence
plaguing this province.
