GOVERNMENT TO SHARE POT PROFITS?

Re "Governor asks: What if pot's legal and taxed?" (Page A1, May 6): I
question whether cigar-smoking Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, poster boy
for Aficionado magazine, is the ideal leader for discussion on whether
pot should be made legal and taxed. I always suspected that much of
the support for marijuana came from those addicted to the
mind-altering drug and the industry behind the most commonly abused
legal drug. It might be well to remember that many of those using the
drug are underage, 12 to 18 years old. I guess government wants to
join the drug industry and share in the profits.

Do we have to study Singapore or the Netherlands to know what we
already know: Marijuana is more than an economic issue, but one that
affects the social and cultural fabric of our families, education,
health and justice institutions. It is a gateway drug that is inviting
our lifestyle to plummet.
