Readers had much to say about diabetic and double amputee Marilyn
Holsten, 49, who is being evicted for smoking pot inside her
Vancouver rental apartment. She says she smokes for medical reasons.

There are solutions here that respect everyone. Perhaps better
ventilation, air circulation, tighter seals on the door, an
application for medicinal marijuana, etc.

Mediation/compassion/under-standing would certainly help.

There is not a person in the world who would trade spots with this
poor lady. A creative, caring community will collaborate to seek
clarity and constructive change.

I live right above a pot smoker who I'm thinking of reporting now
that I've finally ID'd his suite number. When he lights up he stinks
up the whole building from car park to attic.

This woman could have saved all this trouble with a vapourizer that a
compassion club might have chipped in for. If there's one thing I've
noticed about pot smokers, it's that most of them are extremely selfish.

She doesn't have authorization from Health Canada to smoke pot for
medicinal purposes. She might have had a legal battle if she had. She
was just too lazy to get it. I agree with her eviction.

I live in an apartment where, every summer, my neighbours barbecue
several days a week. The smoke and stench waft up over my balcony,
into my living room, causing my eyes to water.

My only recourse is to shut all my windows and doors, often on our
hottest days.

I would far rather smell pot.

Wow, I cannot believe the numbers of people who do not have any
compassion. It's not as if this woman is addicted to crack, or a
chronic alcoholic.

Give me a break and her too.

It seems society is so out of tune with natural health therapies that
they are keeping their narrow minds closed to other options.

She agreed to smoke outside, then she decided to smoke indoors. I'd
give her another chance, but if she continues to smoke indoors, she
should be evicted.

Other people's food cooking stinks. From now on, if I smell anyone's
curry wafting in the hallway I'm calling the manager.

Why should the children in the building be exposed to that crap?
Smoke outside if she has to. I never get these "medicinal marijuana"
types who claim that smoking helps them. If they really need the
stuff, they can get it in a capsule form that you swallow from the
pharmacy. They just want to smoke.
