CRIME WILL PAY
Re: "Tories' tough drug proposals draw scorn," May 4.
I have no objection to stiff penalties for drug dealers attempting to
sell to young people. Reading the scope and intent of the proposed
mandatory sentences, however, reveals that reason is not the
motivation behind this proposal. This bill will weed out (pun
intended) those who grow for themselves and a few friends, and drive
the public to deal with criminals. Drug use, when the law makes it
criminal to be in possession of a small amount of pot, means people
who would otherwise never come into contact with criminals, will
become a source of profit and manpower to them. Who wants to bet this
legislation is intended to introduce automatic seizure of property?
