BATTLE AGAINST METH WORTH FIGHTING

Fighting a problem as pervasive and damaging as the methamphetamine
scourge will take a partnership that spans the gamut from public to
private, religious to secular.

We therefore applaud the efforts of the new nonprofit organization,
Business Against Methamphetamine Use, for its groundbreaking efforts
to raise money for a public agency charged with exterminating the drug.

Methamphetamine, as most are aware, is a heinous drug that has had an
extreme detrimental impact on our society over the past few decades.
To this mind-warping drug can be attributed a recent and massive
spike in property crime, not to mention the breakdown of millions of
families and the destruction of millions of life. Any effort to
contribute to the ongoing efforts to lessen its impact should be encouraged.

Businesses Against Methamphetamine Use has organized the 2009 Chicken
Wing Fest with the intent to raise funds with a chicken-wing-cooking
contest set for Sept. 12 at Eureka's Adorni Center. The proceeds will
then be donated to Humboldt County Department Health and Human
Services' ongoing anti-meth campaign.

We encourage the community to mark their calendars and attend. Every
cent raised in this effort is money well-spent in an effort to
reclaim our community.
