SPOTLIGHT'S A LITTLE BRIGHT IN LOTUS LAND
As far as unwanted international attention goes, it's been a weird
week for our corner of the universe.
First, there was the British newspaper the Independent on Sunday
writing about our "blood-splattered streets littered with shell
casings and corpses."
Of course, the article could have been a lot worse if the writer
mentioned how much it rains here, too.
Then the real big viral news out of Vancouver broke last night when
Britney Spears walked off stage at GM Place 10 minutes into her show
because the building was "awfully smoky."
Saying there is too much smoke in Vancouver is like saying there is
too much drink in Dublin.
The world press had a field day.
Our favourite comments came from a website called d-listed. The
following is an excerpted commentary from the site:
"OK, telling Vancouver to not smoke weed is like telling Phoebe Price
to not pose . . . The good green (stuff) is in the air in Vancouver.
It's part of the oxygen. If they stopped smoking weed, they would
DIE! True fact."
D-listed then went on to suggest Brit ran off stage because all the
good green gave her the munchies.
Maybe next week will be better for our beautiful city. Rumour has it
Billy Bob Thornton is bringing his band to town.
Hope The Province gets an interview.
